Candle making is a great pastime. You may want to get into it professionally or just make some lovely candles for your family and friends, but either way you are going to have to get started somehow. Either you can head out and purchase every different candle making supply pieces that you are looking for separately, or you can save yourself time and get a candle making kit.

With a candle making kit you will get all the materials that you need included, making it a much faster and easier process for you.

Once you have your candle making kit, you will be able to start making candles, but there are a few steps that are involved in this process.

Making Your Candles

First you are going to want to open up your candle making kit and make sure that you have everything that was supposed to be included. Now you want to prepare your workstation, which you can do just by laying some newspaper or wax paper down. This way if you do end up spilling any wax it is not going to end up on your furniture or your floor.

Now that you have your candle making kit ready to go, you start by preparing the mold. Now you set up your double boiler which is where you are going to melt the candle wax. Now you melt the wax, and then color it if you like, but if you purchased a candle making kit then the wax is probably already the color that you want.

Now you can make your own wicks or use those that were included in your kit. Pour the wax into the mold, and then insert the wick. Keep in mind that you will want to use a pencil to lay across the mouth of the mold so that you can hold it there while the wax dries.

You need to measure the wick, and to do this you want to take the wicks and lay them along the length of the mold. Make sure that you add an extra ¾ inch of string for the protruding section of wick, because you want it to go from the bottom of the candle all the way up and protrude a little bit above the top of the candle so that you have something to light. You don’t want to forget to leave part of the wick out, otherwise you are not going to have anything to light on the candle.
